The Sochi International Film Festival Awards (SIFFA) is coming to Cheltenham in 2022. This is in celebration of the rescheduled 60th anniversary of our friendship link with Sochi Russia, which was established in 1959.

Cheltenham Twinning Association is pleased to confirm the programme for a series of events that mark our connection with the Russian city of Sochi, as part of the Sochi International Film Festival.
Exhibition of Art Work – 3 – 20 February
Over 100 years of Russian and Soviet art work, including posters from the Ballet Russe, classic films and the early days of the Russian Revolution, as well as recent original art works from Sochi, and by a London based artist, Anastasia Russo.
This exhibition is open each week Wednesday to Sunday, 10am – 4pm, until 20 February at Chapel Arts.
Film screening of Ivan’s Childhood – Friday 11 February, 4.30pm
A movie made in 1961 by the great Russian director Andrei Tarkovsky. Described in 2016 by the Independent as “the most lyrical war film ever made”, this follows a young boy as he experiences the reality of war in his own country in the 1940s.

Recital by the Kandour String Quartet – Friday 11 February, 8pm
Russian music from films and classical pieces. Aleem Kandour, the Russian-born British founder of the group, graduated from the Royal College of Music three years ago, but as young as seven he was performing with the European Chamber Orchestra. He has performed in many famous venues, including the Wigmore Hall, the Royal Albert Hall and in Buckingham Palace. In December 2019 he played alongside Maxim Vengerov at the Tchaikovsky Concert Hall in Moscow.

Reception and film screening of Heavenly Team – Saturday 12 February, 6pm
Reception with our guests from the Sochi Film Festival, followed by the screening of one of the films that won an award in Sochi in November 2021. Heavenly Team is based on a true story of a team of Ice Hockey players in Russia.
Tickets – £12, include wine on arrival and a light buffet
