We were delighted to welcome nine young people from Göttingen together with Jessika and Niko to Cheltenham from 1-11 August 2025 for this year’s Sport and Sprache programme.
The programme consisted of English language sessions, a meeting with Cheltenham’s Mayor, Cllr Dr David Willingham, and sporting activities. The participants appreciated their home stays with Cheltenham hosts where they enjoyed wholesome meals, and opportunities to further practice their English.
Beyond Cheltenham, a highlight included a day trip to London where the group took in many of the capital’s iconic sights. The young people also enjoyed a visit to Sudeley Castle, and exploring the historic market town Stratford-upon-Avon, famous as the birthplace of William Shakespeare and for its vibrant theatre scene, including the world-renowned Royal Shakespeare Company.
Participation in Cheltenham’s No Child Left Behind celebrations in Pittville Park, and activities at Cranham Scout Centre in Cranham Woods with Springbank Community Youth Leaders and local young people afforded a range of informal learning opportunities.
We are grateful to Jessika and Nico for their longstanding commitment to accompanying young people from Göttingen to Cheltenham and look forward to a 2026 visit!
